About Kim (short bio)

Sex & Intimacy Coach, Kim Switnicki has over 25 years experience speaking with women and couples about sex and sexuality.  Kim started Lioness for Lovers in 1998, after spending several years as the “go to girl” for answers on sex and sexuality, coupled with her thirst for knowledge and her life-long passion and pursuit of sexual discovery.

Kim’s passion is to help women who want to explore their sensual selves and want to discover who they are as women. Kim offers public speaking engagements and smaller private functions on a wide-variety of sexuality topics. Kim’s education includes counseling, coaching and sex therapy courses. She’s currently a member of the SIECCAN and International Coach Federation and is accredited by them as an ACC (Associate Certified Coach) as an Intimacy Coach. She also offers tele-seminars, articles, seminars, workshops and other resources to help you have the best sex ever or to say ‘no thanks’ and have it be okay with both of you!

 

How Lioness for Lovers came to be (long bio)

Humble Beginnings

I am Kim Switnicki and I started Lioness for Lovers in 1998. Actually, that was the formal founding of the business when, in fact, I began my “Sexual Empowerment” crusade much, much sooner. In fact, it wasn’t even called Sexual Empowerment when I began. I’m quite sure “empowerment” was in the dictionary, but it hadn’t yet become the commonly accepted term that it is today. It was more like “ask Kim, she’ll know or at least she’ll find the answer”. Did you ever know someone like that when you were younger? Perhaps you’ve even been the “go to” girl for information for your friends. That was my reputation from early on.

Before I even started having sex, I was looking up body parts and positions and taboos and words like fellatio and cunnilingus to satisfy the curiosity of either myself or my friends or even my friends’ friends! I remember once in 9th grade, I borrowed a t-shirt for a hippy dress-up day and it had a huge flowery “69“ across the front which I thought was very hippy like. I couldn’t figure out why all the guys in the senior classes were pointing to me, making rude comments and laughing. It was some time later (research, research!) before I figured out what all the fuss was about. Being a studious child and bookworm (thanks to my Mom) greatly contributed to my thirst for knowledge that has followed me as an adult.

Eventually, my curiosity got the better of me (why should all my friends have all the fun!) and I lost my virginity. It was not a wholly-pleasant experience and did leave me with more questions than answers. The big one being “is that all there is?” So my life-long passion and the pursuit of sexual discovery began in earnest!

Strippers & Photographers

My best friend became a stripper - sorry - an exotic dancer and I fully supported her in this. I was far too shy to take my clothes off in front of strangers, but I did enjoy hanging out in the clubs with her and watching with great interest as the men sat enthralled by these women removing their clothes. It was quite an education on what can turn a lot of men on.

My boyfriend was a photographer and started taking nudie - sorry- artful erotica pictures. He would flog them to magazines in Toronto and New York which was all quite fun and exciting. I was usually the prop and make-up girl and developed a continuing fascination with the female form. He never took any erotic photos of me, (though my mother still doesn’t believe me!), and that used to bother me. Now that I’m older, I really appreciate that. Thanks, Steve! Now, don’t get me wrong. I have nothing against consenting adults taking nude pictures of each other. If they want to post them in an appropriate place such as an online site designed for that purpose, or another acceptable location, that’s cool, but the key words here are consenting and adult. I wasn’t yet an adult at that time.

Phone Sex

I landed a job as a receptionist at a live phone-sex company in the early 80s back when 900 numbers and recorded messages weren’t the rage they are now. This too was an adventure in what men want and are even willing to pay for! By and large, what they wanted most (not every time), was the time and caring of an attentive woman. They usually wanted to be heard. To talk and really feel that someone was hearing them, even though they were paying for the privilege. Most of the men were married or involved and yet they still called to have a kind woman listen to them. What an amazing learning experience!

Pornos & Sex Toys discovered

From there I moved on to an adult video mail-order business - what fun that was!! I worked in all departments from bookkeeping to customer service and eventually was the Manager for this $ million a year business. We had very high standards and adhered to a strict code of ethics so my integrity was never compromised. It, too, was an intense environment for learning about sexuality and what makes sexual motors hum. This company eventually purchased an adult toy business and that began a whole new learning curve. Who knew there were so many types of lotions and potions, games, books, rubber goods and vibrators and so much more!

I was now in Montreal (I believe the cultural and cosmopolitan center of our country) and the whole city was alive with a sexual hum. Now that may have been our warehouse that I was hearing, but it vibrated for me! I must say that the adult toy industry has certainly come a long way since the late 80s as far as quality control of ingredients and even shapes, sizes and colors. There are still improvements required, but, as a wholesale purchaser, we keep applying pressure (on your behalf) to produce better quality for less money. As with things like organic food, the laws of supply and demand will dictate the results. There are certainly a lot more affordable organic foods than there used to be!   

Questions, questions!

All the while I was becoming even more popular with friends and acquaintances wanting answers to more and more complex issues around sexuality. Some wanted help with masturbation or sexual identity or even help trying to figure out if they’d even had an orgasm yet. Perhaps they just wanted to come over and see what new erotic movies were on the VCR (I know I’m dating myself here). My partner and I did a lot of quality control at our house - a tough job, but somebody had to do it! So my research continued full force as I read and studied whatever I could get my hands on to do with sex!

Settled down

I eventually burnt out and became somewhat toughened to most things sexual. I left the business and settled down, got married and tried to live a normal life as a bookkeeper… it didn’t last very long. Nor did the marriage for that matter. One thing my break from the industry did was to get me back to a more “normal” perspective on sex and sexuality as it had taken over my life.

I’m thrilled to say I’m much more centered in my life now and sexuality has its place with my work and also privately. It’s taken a lot of effort, but now they can exist together in harmony. I’m happily remarried and have an equal partner in my life which is more than I could have hoped for. So yes, ladies, it IS possible!

Itchy to get back

I had helped a friend with his plans for an upscale lingerie and adult toy store and let him pick my brains for all that I could help him with. That got me thinking. I had much more fun discussing dildos and masturbation than I did debits and credits. So I began reconnecting with old contacts in the industry and started research into starting my own adult business.

The 1st website is born

I decided on mail-order adult products and found a web designer (thanks, Greg!) who was able to provide what I was looking for. Lioness was a pioneer as we were the first Credit Union merchant in British Columbia to go online (back in 1999!) which, while frustrating at times, was exciting as I helped them navigate the online waters.

1st Tradeshow leads to unique parties!

Some of you may have seen me at my first tradeshow (the West Coast Women’s Show) to launch the (old) website in March of 2000 in Nanaimo, British Columbia. I had such a positive response and the women were so thrilled at having a company like Lioness for Lovers out in public with someone speaking comfortably about what was still considered a “taboo” subject. I do forget sometimes that frank conversation around sexuality is not always considered “proper” and certainly is not common. I am quite passionate about promoting healthy sexuality for every living soul and do tend to get on my soapbox on occasion :-)

The feedback was so overwhelming and encouraging that I soon began doing home parties where the focus was on education and information and the toys were secondary. That same focus continues to this day in all that we do. In this intimate environment of peoples’ homes, I was able to reach groups of women who seemed almost starving for the information I had to offer. It is such a shame that we, as girls, are not taught some basic fundamentals about how our bodies work. We don’t always hear it from our mothers, our doctors, our teachers, our sisters or our friends - usually because they weren’t taught either! If we do hear things, I’ve learned that it quite often is incorrect! Most of us grow up with shame, guilt and fear around our bodies or touching ourselves (masturbation is rarely encouraged) and then we wonder why we have trouble reaching orgasm with our partners!

I listened to you!

There’s always been the opportunity for one-on-one time with each woman who attends a Lioness home party. This is where I have the honor of hearing her private questions and then answering them or at least finding the answer if I don’t have it. This has been such a tremendous gift to me and I’m very much looking forward to sharing what I have learned with you.

Having done hundreds of parties and having spoken with thousands of women, I think it’s fair to say that I have a good idea of what women want from their sex lives and what their deepest concerns and their burning questions are. The new Lioness for Lovers website is geared to help answer those questions, help with those concerns and help you get exactly what you want from your sex life in the exact way you want it!

Upgraded skills & education to help you

Over the years I’ve done public speaking engagements and smaller private functions on a wide-variety of sexuality topics and have thoroughly enjoyed each one as I always learn something new! I’ve upgraded my skills with counseling, coaching and sex therapy courses and continue to attend sexuality conferences and anything else I can find to help women achieve their true sexual potential! I’m a member of the International Coach Federation and am working towards international certification as an Intimacy Coach. New direction

My passion lies in helping women who want to explore their sensual selves, who want to discover who they are as women, not just moms, sisters, daughters and wives. Because I love speaking with and teaching women and helping them define and sometimes stretch their boundaries (while not crossing any lines), I don’t do as many parties as I used to.

My focus now is on seminars and workshops and to build this website as THE place for you to come for answers to all those questions you don’t feel comfortable asking your mom, daughter or doctor. A place where you can feel safe and secure knowing that the misinformation, fluff, inaccurate and downright wrong information has been sorted through and you are left with precise and truthful gems that can make all the difference in your sex life and sexual health!
